MSC Annual Open House: Design on a Dime Reveals!

MSC Annual Open House
May 22, 2016

Our Annual Open House is an opportunity to invite our constituents, partners, friends and family to visit us, learn more about us and what we do.

This year we unveiled our 'Design on a Dime' activities; wherein our house was frugally refreshed with a focus on:

1. Inspiring sober living & continuous recovery!
2. Being creative!
3. Reusing - Repurposing -Recycling!

In this way we support our vision, wherein "we envision a world in which every woman embraces her unique value and potential for a spirit-filled life of love, dignity and purpose."

Pictured on the left, our Founder and Executive Director, Royce Adams, in the kitchen bistro she refreshed.

On the right, our Board President, Emily Newsome, in the room she rechristened 'Peaceful Shores'.

The wall art of the seashore at dawn is a reminder that every new day brings possibilities. We have the choice to approach each day with an attitude of gratitude. The image of the water, lapping at the edge of the shore is a reminder that life continues. Peach and blue are the dominant colors in the piece. Peach stands for immortality or eternal life. Blue promotes peace and tranquility, reducing stress, and promoting calmness.

Peace I leave with you; My [perfect] peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be afraid. [Let My perfect peace calm you in every circumstance and give you courage and strength for every challenge.] – John14:27 (Amplified)

The 'Butterfly Room' designed by Board VP, Donna Randle, and her friend Terri Lawrence.

"Determined to get it done cost effectively, I contacted Terri since she coordinates events and decorates for the joy of it. And it kicked off from there; she sent out emails to a few women in our circle.

From these ladies we received over 50% of what we needed. The only purchased items was the bedding purchased from Big Lot, some of the pictures from Dollar Tree and the door organizer from At Homes.

Donated from our friends were the throw pillows, clock and table items, which were redecorated with finishing decorative touches added by Terri Lawrence. This room was transformed from warm and cozy to sizzling and chic and class."

Butterfly:  the metamorphosis of the caterpillar; the person she was when she arrived at MSC) to the butterfly...the beautiful person she can/will/has become upon completion of the program!

Board Member, Theresa Braddy, presents the refreshed 'Ladies Room'.

Theresa's inspiration: "We all have characteristic of a woman, a lady, and a female. A woman brings strength. A lady brings class. A female defines the fire inside. You will find that this room is inspired by all these elements. As you take in the essence of this, allow yourself to express your strength, class, and the fire inside... DARLING!"

Theresa's Design Tips:

Wall decoration for inspiration to promote strength.
                  (Inspiration for continuous recovery!)

Comforters to bring fire in the room with a playful leopard pattern.
                  (Sparking creativity!)

Night stand & shelf, refreshed with new color, to bring the class.
                  (Reused - Repurposed -Recycled!)

Board Member, Phyllis Thompson, showcasing her Be Inspired Room'.

Phyllis' inspiration stemmed from the 3 C's in Life:

"You must make a CHOICE to take a CHANCE
or your life will never CHANGE!!!!"

A self professed "non-decorated", Phyllis dressed this room is with soothing colors for the season while matching her vibrant personality.

Decor pieces were refreshed with spray paint. A simple sponging technique was used to accent a tabletop and compliment existing pieces.  Around a mirror, small accent mirrors add to the fun nature of the room.

Stay tuned for more highlights from this year's Design on a Dime!

While not re-designed, our Serenity Cafe remains an important room where
Chef Billy ensures our special order fruit kabobs inspire us to eat healthy.

Many, many thanks to our Board, Staff, Friends and Family for joining us in celebration and laughter!
